Kending, Southern Tip Taiwan.
6:00 a.m. We were up early this morning to catch a private bus down to great grandfathers in southern Taiwan.
9:00 a.m. After visiting great grand dad and grandma we checked into a local hotel. We will spend at least one night in comfort before New Years festivities begin. Last year we stayed at great grandfather’s, but to be honest I didn’t like it one bit. They live in a very old japanese era house, which is run.down and full of insense smoke burning from traditional altars and cigarette smoke. Two smells I loath. And the old hard beds are.. hard!
11:00 a.m. After going to mix with family for an hour or two we returned to the hotel and had a solid sleep for two hours.
3:30 p.m. Chia, Alexander and I borrowed great grandfathers’s scooter and zoomed around the peaceful country side for an hour, stopping by a cheap dollar store in a nearby township and buying a toy car for Alexander to occupy him in the hotel room and some snack foods, mostly Doritos! Yum.
8:00 p.m. Checked back into the hotel for the evening. The hotel is in a hot springs area, so the bath water is of course fresh hot springs water. I bathed with Alexander for a good 30 minutes until our finger tips looked like shriveled prunes. Ha.
9:00 p.m. We might be in the country with the farms and ocean but not without convenience. Down on the corner is if course a 7-11. The amount of convenience stores in Taiwan is staggering. They pretty much are on every corner. 7-11 used to be a United States chain. But it is now owned by the Japanese who have great investment in Taiwan. Anyway digressing, need some midnight goodies so we can eat a watch a movie. Tonight’s movie is San Andreas with “The Rock” as the lead actor. Should be fun.
