19th July 2017 | Formosan Express

On the express train from Zuoying to Tainan.

Wednesday.  32°c.  HOT.
1 p.m. Catching an express train from Zuoying Station. The same station where the bullet train launches from. I found that its best to scoot to the MRT station near my home and then catch the MRT to Zuoying and transfer to a connecting express train to Tainan. It saves me waiting in ques at Kaohsiung station and then having to wait on an open platform. Which during summer is not pleasant. At Zuoying the platforms are close and thus air conditioned. If I’m going to be paying more to travel on train then I best get my money’s worth. Comfort!

Express train carriage. The black bear on the headrests is Taiwans native bear. Its called the “Formosan Black Bear”. It has an unusual white triangle on its chest.

1:30 p.m. Arrived in Tainan well ahead of schedule. I dropped into a large book shop called “Caves” on the way to Anlis class. It was nice and cool inside but full of summer school children on somekind of English camp. It became a bit too much so I continued on my way.

2:20 p.m. Meet Anli’s mother briefly outside her husbands Dental Clinic. She had just returned from a school trip to Germany yesterday and was happy and full of smiles as usual. Started class with Anli. After her English lesson we made another electronic project: Police Car Lights.

5:00 p.m. Finished class and headed back to the train station. Oh boy, another hot and muggy afternoon.

5:30 p.m. Was lucky enough to get an express train back to Kaohsiung.

7:00 p.m. Home again, home again. Jiggery Jig.
